#673 Clarify when it is (not) appropriate to use alternatives
Closed: Fixed None Opened 2 years ago by toshio.

Every so often I run into a package where the packager has used alternatives inappropriately. Although when we wrote the alternatives guidelines we tries to make clear that alternatives were not okay to use in many circumstances, we did not use strict MUST, SHOULD, MAY wording so packagers use it anyway. Here's a draft alternatives update that fixes that and expands on the language a bit:

Update: I added "AND" and "OR" to the draft so updated the link to the diff.

Feel free to ping me (abadger1999) on IRC if you want to discuss this more.

We discussed this at this weeks meeting (http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting-1/2017-02-09/fpc.2017-02-09-17.01.txt):

  • ACTION: Clarify when it is (not) appropriate to use alternatives
    (+1:5, 0:1, -1:0) (geppetto, 17:41:11)
