This is about the tonto review request, bz 1197471. In short, here is three files from the Acme website. I request a copy-lib exception. If granted an exception, I suggest that acme is treated as ccan with three virtual provides on the form "Provides: bundled(acme-!GifEncoder)" etc.
The three files, each independent of the other ones, are: - Acme/!IntHashtable.java - !Acme/Acme/JPM/Encoders/GifEncoder.java - !Acme/Acme/JPM/Encoders/ImageEncoder.java
It is technically possible to package the acme site. However, to package a site with old unmaintained code snippets is in my eyes to defy the site's purpose.
The standard questions: - Has the library behaviour been modified? No, the files are used more or less verbatim. - Could we make the forked version the canonical version within Fedora? This question makes IMHO no sense here. - Are the changes useful to consumers other than the bundling application? This code is not useful in any modern context, it's just too old. - Is upstream keeping the base library updated? No, upstream is very dead. - What is the attitude of upstream towards bundling? The site is designed to provide snippets which you can browse and download separately i. e., it's designed to support bundling. - security ramifications of bundling? This is code to handle graphics formats and a generic container in an ordinary user application, I see no particular concerns, especially as long as it's bundled with this application. - Does the maintainer of the Fedora package of the library being bundled object? There is no such maintainer. - Is there a plan for unbundling the library? No.

We discussed this at today's meeting (http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting-1/2015-03-05/fpc.2015-03-05-17.00.txt):
