There's nothing special about this daemon that would require static allocation. A "dynamically" allocated uid is fine.
It's probable that my memory is failing me completely, but I don't recall ever approving a status UID for this. The string doesn't appear in any of this trac's tickets.
In any case certainly nobody ever has to ask FPC to use a dynamic UID, so feel free.
This does bring up the question of how we would know if someone was simply ignoring us, so I've dropped by pkgdb and added myself to the watchcommits list for the setup package. It would probably be good if a couple of other FPC members did the same.
