#174 Requesting to become a package sponser: sgallagh
Closed: Fixed None Opened 9 years ago by sgallagh.

I have been a provenpackager in Fedora for several years now. I maintain numerous packages (https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packager/sgallagh/) and regularly perform non-trivial package reviews (including today's https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1194212 )

I would like to be added to the sponsor group so I can help new contributors get their packages in.

+1
Stephen is a trusted Fedora contributor and has extensive knowledge about RPM packaging and our guidelines, so he'll make a fine sponsor

+1
Stephen will be a great sponsor.

I won't vote.

The reason being that the review pointed at ( https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1194212 ) is a poor one. It isn't an example for guidance offered by packagersponsors either.

-1 from me. I think Mr. Gallagher is responsible for man unhealthy developments in Fedora.

Ralph,

Is this a personal opinion or is it based on any technical data?

A more non-trivial example was e.g the node.js review https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=815018

It was actually reviewed by me, but Stephen did all the leg-work, such as reaching out, convincing upstream to change their way of building; he submitted patches (e.g to enable dynamic linking, unbundled libraries etc.); one of the other issues was, the original package submitter was somehow unable to do, what was necessary, and Stephen stepped up.

Under that light, Stephen proved, he knows Fedoras packing policies. He showed, how to guide upstream into the right direction.

I don't have an example at hand, where he advised another packager, though.

Sorry for the delay here. It's been more than a week and the differential between + and - votes is more than +3.

Congratulations and use your sponsor powers for good.
