Would you consider using it? I'm not affiliated with Debian, but I'd like to see that patch or something similar in newt proper, not only in Debian :)

It's been a while since a looked at the bidi patch. I think it would need more work to be accepted. There are some comments that look like TODO items, the dlopen paths are hardcoded (I think I'd prefer proper linking instead of dlopen), etc.
