I get that we need pcre2 (it's pulled in by at least selinux and systemd), but I hope we don't need both.
grep and glib2 still rely on the original pcre. I would imaging that grep would welcome patches to port to pcre2.
glib2 is already having discussions on what to do with its pcre dependency in GRegex:
