+ = Virtual Events

+

+ Due to COVID-19's safety precautions,In most places of the world we're unable to meet in-person and have awesome Fedora events.

+ As a result, we've initiated the idea of Virtual Events to have events like Release Parties & Fedora Women's Days be organized from the comfort of home and people can attend them easily without any commute.

+

+ == What to do at Virtual Events

+

+ . *Talks/Presentations:*

+ Typically talks at in-person events are ones that introduces different teams / SIGs in Fedora.

+ . *Question and Answers session:*

+ Similar to in-person events, where we have a live QnA session, we can have a seperate time allocated for a QnA session regarding Fedora in the event

+ . *Hallway Track:*

+ It's another idea derived from in-person events, Just like a hallway at a conference where different people meet, communicate and improve their network,

+ We can emulate that by having a always open session or somethin like a Mozilla Hub in the event where people can hang out, connect and chat.

+ . *Games:*

+ To improve the fun and engaging aspect of the Virtual events, we can setup games like Online pictionary, etc.

+ Where attendees can have fun and connect with other people in an engaging way.

+ . *Lightning Connections [Not sure what it's called]*

+ A timeboxed event where two attendees can connect on a quick call for short span of time and share their introductions, interests and connect.

+

+ These are just ideas.

+ You're not required to do any or all of them.

+ Focus your event on your audience.

+ For example, If you're hosting a Virtual Release Party for the local community, you can have talks in the local language.

+

+ == Platforms

+

+ Fedora Project in Collaboration with Redhat Open Source Program Office can provice access to link:https://hopin.to/[Hopin] and create an Event for you there where you can set up the sessions and tracks.

@riecatnor are we still having the Hopin account in collaboration with Redhat OSPO ?

+

+ [NOTE]

+ The Event can only be of 72 Hours max.

+

+ You're not required to use Hopin, You're free to use other Open Source video sharing platforms too.

Are we good with Zoom and other Non-FOSS Video sharing platforms.
Suggested Change:

You're free to use other video sharing platforms too (Please mention it in the ticket.)

+ == Hosting Virtual Events

+

+ _It's simple to host a Virtual Event_

+ .When you're ready to apply, you need to do a few simple things:

+ * Send an email to the https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/mindshare@lists.fedoraproject.org/[mindshare mailing list] and let the Mindshare committee know what you're planning.

+ Ambassadors and others may have suggestions or advice that can improve your event.

+ This also let's you find others who may want to help you with yoru event with things like Moderation.

+ * Open a ticket in the https://pagure.io/fedora-mindshare/virtual-events/issues/[Virtual Events Issues Tracker] under the Mindshare Umbrella.

+ * Once the virtual event is approved, Add in the https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/Events/[Calendar] for others to find in the Fedora Calendar.

+ * Have an awesome Virtual Event.

+ * After your Virtual event, write an event report. An event report lets the community know what happened and how it went.

+ Ideally your report will be shared on the Fedora Community Blog, but posting it on your own blog and the Fedora Planet is fine too.

Initialized a page for documenting Virtual Events.

Status: It's currently a Work in Progress and needs some input and reviews.

Well, Hopin is not FOSS. So maybe just write "you are free to use platform of your choice"?
