#85 Linux in Edinburgh
Closed: Complete 5 years ago by bex. Opened 5 years ago by yulytas.

Hello Fedora

It is been so long that I did not do a Fedora event because when you are abroad, there are new rules and processes for booking rooms and organizing events has not been easy as I used to do in Peru.

Now I am glad that am arranging something in Edinburgh with the collaboration of my fellowships in the HPC Master.

Budget:

I am asking for the commit in total $190
This is the draft on Eventbrite
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/linux-in-edinburgh-tickets-55171591716

@yulytas Maybe I will sound a little picky but I don't see the "fedora project" name in any place in the Eventbrite draft. Editing this and explaining what Fedora related talks, Target Audience (i know are more or less clear its an event for students but is easy to put it in this ticket), etc.

in this way is easy for us to review it in the next meeting and maybe speeding up the process.

BTW I love the idea so please update the ticket

I have a few questions:

  1. This feels like something on the scale of a release party, so please share where the 570-760 USD budget is going for the whole event.

  2. The Eventbrite says the event is in February but the poster says it is in 8 days.

  3. Why are we not handing out stickers, at least?

  4. There is still no change to the Eventbrite draft to mention Fedora and no indication of how our sponsorship will be portrayed. Can you please answer @bt0dotninja 's question?

This is the first draft. It was the first plan but this is not the final because as I mentioned the University processes took time to arrange an event. It was not easy to convince people and authorities here to do it, they dont know much about Fedora or GNOME. The rules are different from Peru in many ways regarding events and the way to do things.
The Eventbrite was not release neither a flyer or event difussion on social networks yet until I will have the fully approval of the projects involved, so far GNOME and the University approved. LinuXatUNI did the design.
I asked Fedora $190 not more, if you want to send stickers or something else, everything is welcome.
As a free event, everyone is welcome: students, people in general, I think I have done dozens of events and in none of them I restrict the entrance just for students, I usually do for everyone according to the FLOSS ideology. Sharing knowledge can not be excluded for someone who wants to learn.

This feels like something on the scale of a release party, so please share where the 570-760 USD budget is going for the whole event.

Julita wrote $190, you read 570-760, you fast reading isn't good.

I'd like to know what the plan is before we approve the spending, just like we do for other events.

Also, I asked about the full budget of hte event because we are getting equal billing with 2-3 other sponsors, so I am curious how the money is being spent. Are the other sponsors also providing funds or something?

Yes, Julita wrote $190. There are 4 sponsors, one is the university. They are all getting equal billing meaning they are all at the same sponsorship level. 4 sponsors at a $190 level == 760. 3 sponsors at $190 with the uni providing space = $570.

I explained already, please read careful the comments .
University is giving a central place, Linux at uní did the design and GNOME Nicely agreed for the GNOME cake, and GNOME staff even more, they included transactional fees for transferring money which Fedora is not considering so far.

Actually I don't see where Gnome was listed as sending a cake or staff above.

they included transactional fees for transferring money which Fedora is not considering so far.

Fedora has always covered transaction fees.

Fedora is paying for its cake
GNOME cake is in the GNOME system
It is not shared, each one is different
Thanks.

Hi @yulitas

I'm in favor to document well all the tickets before the meeting, so the estimated number of attendees is 80 (two similar cakes for 40 people), that is an important fact for this ticket, also sharing us the topics of the Fedora talks help us a lot.

Please ask for stickers too, people love stickers

Please sure! send stickers if you can help :)
The Fedora topics are in the flyer, please read! :p

@yulytas yeah, I mean a more complete syllabus or something like that . You know not suitable for the flayer but amazing for the ticket or Eventbrite. I loved the new design

+1 from bt0, bexelbie, x3mboy, nb in our meeting, waiting to hear from @sumantrom and @jsmith

The $190 is approved.
