#79 Requesting travel ticket for DevConf.CZ
Closed: Complete 5 years ago by bex. Opened 5 years ago by yulytas.

I want to attend to strengthen bonds and reinforce my commitment to the Fedora community.
The ticket flight costs around $70 from london to brno + $25 train (edinburgh to london) = $95 .
Could you please buy the tickets as organizers?
If it is possible arrange the hotel for the days of the conference it would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Best,
Julita Inca

@yulytas can you elaborate more on how your attendance at DevConf, a non-Fedora sponsored or hosted conference, is going to help the Fedora community attract more users and contributors? I understand that you have very personal motivations for wanting to go, but I don't see how this benefits Fedora based on what you've written above, "I want to attend to strengthen bonds and reinforce my commitment to the Fedora community." That sentence sounds like the start of a justification for attendance at Flock.

Thanks,

bex

Hello @bex I think learn more about Fedora and the community interaction will let to start events here in Europe, specially if I am located closer with a budget of around $100 instead of what it would have cost if I were in Peru ($4000), but if you dont see any benefit on learning, please close the ticket and thanks again for the support.

I am not aware of us normally funding people to conferences to learn this way. Can you share how this was handled in the past? I was under the impression that we always directed new people to work with local ambassadors. I believe you were recently at the Release Party in Poland and met folks there. Additionally, I recall you being an experienced ambassador/event owner.

The question of how much to spend it secondary to what we are spending it on. If the idea is worth doing, then we need to decide if we can afford to do it. We shouldn't try to make ideas look better by changing their budgets as step 1.

Additionally, @yulytas this is not a question of what I personally decide is beneficial or not, it is a question for the Mindshare Committee as a whole.

I just wanted to be active again in FLOSS with Fedora (now in Europe), if you have a Fedora stand I can help with that or in anything is needed.
I attended to Poland as a guess thanks to Rafal, but I did not do anything as an organizer yet.
I will respect what the Mindshare Committee decide.
Regards to all,
Julita

-1 based on the current ticket's content. I am open to revisiting this with more justification/information.

I understand your intention to learn and interact more with the Fedora community, and I applaud those efforts. That being said, I'm not sure DevConf.cz is the right venue for attracting more users and contributors. I also tend to agree with @bex here -- we typically don't fund travel to conference to learn in this manner.

For these reasons, I'm going to vote -1 on this request.

Per the meeting today this ticket will stay open for 2 more days to see if new information/justification/support is forthcoming, otherwise it closes as not approved.

I'm going to vote -1, let us know if you can justify more this ticket
