#46 Swag and funding for LinuxDays 2018 in Prague
Closed: Complete 5 years ago Opened 5 years ago by eischmann.

I'd like to ask for swag and funding for LinuxDays 2018 in Prague where we're going to have a Fedora booth and run a Flatpak workshop. More info below.

  1. Jiri Eischmann
  2. eischmann
  3. Oct 6-7
  4. Prague, Czech Republic
  5. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LinuxDaysPrague2018
  6. General swag for a booth in quantities appropriate for the size of the conference (1500 visitors)
  7. Budget:
    Gasoline (Brno-Prague and back): ~ 1000 CZK == ~ $45
Accommodation for one person (the rest gets accommodation from the conference): <= $150
  8. General Linux enthusiasts, sysadmins, hardware people, networking experts

Do we have any specific booth messaging or conversations we are going to focus on having?

This is the first time Fedora is being approached about this event, but I know we have a history there through other funding and activity. Can you share what we've learned in the past and why it is an event we should keep doing? What has made it a success in the past?

Also, the wiki page contains no real data. Who is running this workshop?

@eischmann the committee is generally positive but would like answers to the questions presented above. A few more questions may be added. This can still be approved in time if you respond. Thank you.

We wanna focus on Silverblue this year. That's what we're going to have on the demo laptop and showcase. But we'd also like to speak to people about modularization.
Why is it important for Fedora Project to be there? LinuxDays is the biggest Linux event in the country, it's something like a local FOSDEM. Majority of attendees have probably heard of Fedora before, but it's good to talk to them about why Fedora is good and worth trying. Also the campus is a focus for SUSE which has a growing office in Prague and they're always strongly present, so it's good to counter that a bit. And that has been successful IMHO. The National Library of Technology on the campus chose Fedora for their computers, there are quite a lot of ČVUT students and teachers using Fedora (also due to Miro's work).

I think this is a good reason for Fedora to participate, but I would like to see our measures fleshed out some. Can you please write a good event report that proposes some strategies to turn this form a "counter SUSE" into a great impact for Fedora?

I suggest we fund the $150 hotel and provide stickers and if we have them pens. I've rounded up some other money a budget in RH to cover the transportation.

Based on the 3 October Meeting, I think this has 3 +1s already. I'll leave this open for a couple of more days to see if there are other opinions, however @eischmann please move forward as though this is approved. I'll assist you if that changes. Also, please open tickets with more notice in the future. I know this snuck up on you due to a combination of PTO and external changes.

Fantastic event report @eischmann. What would you suggest to improve/change for next year, if we were to return? It sounds like this is a desktop user focused event. Could we do something different to help these new Silverblue members become active in our community by, for example, participating on discussions.fp.o?

Please coordinate with me offline about your reimbursement. Thank you!
