#279 Guadec sponsorship

I've talked briefly to Matthew about guadec sponsorship, and he expressed interest in getting Fedora to sponsor the event this year.

Yeah. Traditionally (and including this year) Red Hat sponsors directly. This year, since we're not traveling and have some budget flexibility, I think it'd be nice to have Fedora represented directly.

I'm totally in favor of this but still, we need to have more context to vote for it

Nice, what level of sponsorship you want/suggest?

I'm not in a great position to make a suggestion here, I'm really just the middleman between mattdm and mdb.

If I have to make a suggestion, I would say: same level as the sponsorship for akademy.

The brochure is here: https://www.gnome.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/GUADEC-SponsorBrochure-2021.pdf

Doing something comparable to Akademy makes sense, although I note that the sponsorship levels do not line up in cost, with GUADEC being considerably higher — making the Bronze level most comparable monetarily. Molly from GNOME also says that since we're a community project rather than a corporate sponsor (Red Hat is already sponsoring at the Gold level), we could discuss an additional benefit beyond those listed. We're not going to benefit from a job listing, for example.

I'm favor of "Bronze" sponsorship but we don't need "Advertising on Jobs Board". So instead of that It would be nice have "Dedicated office hours during event". So final bronze sponsorship would be;

- Bronze Sponsorship

Thank you posts with logo on social channels
Dedicated office hours during event
Logos on splash-screens between live streams

it would be great to also prepare good content for the office hours

Hi folks, I have initiated the process with the Guadec organizers and things are moving along. They said yes to the office hour session instead of the job board advertisement, we will have a 20 minute office hour session dedicated to Fedora.

Separately, Red Hat's OSPO office is sponsoring Guadec(this was in place before we made our decision actually) and they would like Fedora to have a presence at their office hour session as well. That one will be 60 minutes I believe.

I will provide any updates here, but I agree with @till we should also work on some content for the office hours. We could do a "How to Join Fedora" session and take some questions?

Hey folks, I caught up with the peeps organizing the RH sponsorship and they are up for:
30 mins "How to Join Fedora" preso
30 mins Q&A & social time
30 mins -- still need to fill- any ideas for this??

No info yet on the timing of the sessions. Will provide an update asap

We discussed this in the Mindshare Committee meeting today, and we came up with the following ideas:

Fedora silverblue - gnome centered spin, could be an interesting topic for this audience
Interview with the FPL - @mattdm usually has good Stories to tell :)

@mclasen - we wanted to check in with you as well, as you opened the ticket and are involved with gnome/fedora stuff. What do you think would work well for Fedora office hours?

Hi Folks! Here with an update on timing and topics for Fedora sessions at GUADEC. I encourage anyone on this thread to join for either/both sessions.

July 21 at 18:30-19:30 UTC for the 60 minute session:
Red Hat & Fedora Office Hours: How to join Fedora, chat with community members & Q&A

July 22 14:30-15:00 UTC for the 30 minute session:
AMA with Fedora Project Leader Matthew Miller

Registration here: https://events.gnome.org/event/9/registrations/34/

I also opened this badge ticket to award to attendees and sent it off to a badge artist to see if they have capacity to create the design: https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/839
