#23 Establish best practice for on-boarding / off-boarding Mindshare Committee members
Closed: Complete 2 years ago by riecatnor. Opened 5 years ago by jflory7.

Summary

Create list of steps or process to follow to for on-boarding new members of Mindshare Committee (both elected and selected) and off-boarding for retiring members

Background

There is currently not a formal process for changing membership of members to the Mindshare Committee – mostly because we have not had to do this until recently. It is best to document our steps of bringing in new members and retiring old members. This helps us keep our privileges up to date after an election or change of positions. It makes the process more like checking boxes instead of thinking and wondering if all the right things were changed.

Details

Off the top of my head, the menial things to do are:

On-boarding

  • Add new member to FAS group
  • Add new member to Pagure group
  • Add new member to wiki page list of members

The above three things are menial and take little effort. We should have a method or process of on-boarding someone into the Committee. Perhaps this means updating ticket metadata (priorities, milestones, tags, etc.) and pointing a new Committee member to those. That way, they will have a strong idea of what we're currently working on and where our focus / bandwidth is.

I'm also curious as to any pain points we have now. I'm also curious for @sumantrom's feedback here since he is a newly elected member. Questions about what we're doing or how to get involved as a new committee member are probably helpful for us to figure out how to answer.

@sumantrom, if you have any of these now, please feel free to write them here too.

Off-boarding

  • Remove member from FAS group
  • Remove member from Pagure group
  • Remove member from wiki page list of members

I'm not sure if this needs to be more complicated? Maybe I'm missing something?

Outcome

Better documented process of menial steps to follow for on-boarding and off-boarding, and better integration of new members to current work and activities

@riecatnor since you handle the onboarding, are the steps that you perform documented somewhere? Then we can probably close this ticket.

If there is no documentation, yet, I propose to setup onboarding/offboarding issue templates for pagure, so they can be used to create a ticket to track the necessary steps.
