The Fedora Council is in the process of final approval of the Design Team's work on the refreshed Fedora logo. When that is complete, we're going to want to get new swag out into the world. What designs do we need?
As I think has been discussed in this group previously, we want to do a big swag handout for active contributors to both reward everyone and to help get the new logo seeded in the world. We're probably going to do this through a fulfillment service — we'll give people a code and they'll be able to pick from options (so people who want t-shirts can get them and people who don't need any more geek shirts in their wardrobe can load up on pens or whatever instead). So, I think first priority should go for things which may end up in that kit. But we should also identify other staples. (For example, we might not give out USB sticks, but a USB stick design is probably important in general.)
My initial "core" list:
Some other things that might be nice:
What does the team think is most important? What works? What's more expensive than worthwhile?
Case badge stickers are very popular and I think we need to continue to produce those.
From my standpoint, the most important are:
I like the idea of a design for USB keys, even if we don't give away USB keys as part of the logo update.
Metadata Update from @bex: - Issue priority set to: None (was: awaiting triage)
The logo is winding its way through legal and other approvals. I'll try to pull a list of existing swag to compare with this list over the next week or so.
I also encourage us to consider ways to prioritize this list so design can tackle high-priority needs first and minimize effort on things that are "great ideas" but unlikely to get produced soon.

One or two main artworks that could be print either locally or sent with the swag could help. They help identify spaces at conferences and a generic one can be used not only on Fedora-only events, but also in more wider conferences and gatherings.
This may bubble back up soon.
We discussed this today at the Mindshare Committee meeting.
<riecatnor> So I see at one point bex was going to provide a list of our current standard swag <riecatnor> That is probably a good thing for me to do <riecatnor> Curious if mizmo has thoughts on this one <mizmo> i always favor swag that is more sustainable / less environmentally impactful <tg-fedmindshare> <bt0dotninja> yes <mizmo> something that could be produced by someone by hand might be neat to keep as a core item, like the cheatcubes <mizmo> so ambassadors who cant get stuff shipped/produced in time or for whatever reason, could have something <riecatnor> I don't think I know about cheatcubes <mizmo> i guess in rona times which we dont know how long they will last, the emphasis would be on items that cost the least to ship <mizmo> since theyd be shipped to attendees at times <riecatnor> that will be lighter weight items, not glass or easily breakable <mizmo> riecatnor: let me see if i can find one, one sec <mizmo> https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/e/e1/Fedora_Cheat_Cube_Packagers.png <mizmo> its like a print / cut / and fold type of things <x3mboy> What about the "bussiness cards"? <tg-fedmindshare> <bt0dotninja> pins and stickers <riecatnor> ahh, I love this idea <riecatnor> the cubes are fun <riecatnor> Ok, so we have some notes here, I will add them to the ticket.. also I will pull together a list of our current items <x3mboy> https://pagure.io/design/issue/531 <mizmo> we could play with other shapes too https://mathgeekmama.com/geometric-nets-for-3d-shapes-free-printable-pack/ <tg-fedmindshare> <bt0dotninja> we need to update the cubes content and make some translations <riecatnor> I just made a heart one of these as a valentines day craft :) <tg-fedmindshare> <bt0dotninja> :) <riecatnor> so the idea would be, we print them high quality and send them out? and/or this is a resource we want to update for people to download and print at home <mizmo> yeh we could print them high quality on paper stock, maybe even get a vendor to die cut them? <riecatnor> that would be ideal <x3mboy> I think we can send them to cut at home <mizmo> but we could have a DIY at home version for anybody including ambassadors who have time / shipment / etc logistical issues <x3mboy> It would be a fun activity to do in an event <x3mboy> Sharing our hands skills <mizmo> oh depending on how the new mascot work comes out, we might want some mascot swag <riecatnor> cool!
Banner or Flag. One or two main artworks that could be print either locally or sent with the swag could help. They help identify spaces at conferences and a generic one can be used not only on Fedora-only events, but also in more wider conferences and gatherings.
If we get new banners, please make them so that Fedora/the logo is written at the top instead of at the bottom to make it easier for people to identify that a booth belongs to the Fedora project.
The current design as seen in https://robert.fedorapeople.org/events/2011/linuxtag/026.jpg https://robert.fedorapeople.org/events/2011/froscon/005.jpg
makes it very hard to identify the booths from far away/if people are standing in front of it.
Here is a list of the current items we regularly keep around: Blue Fedora Hex Stickers Fedora Pen (white) Diversity Stickers 1" Round Fedora Pin (blue) Fedora Enamel Pins Fedora Lanyards (Black) Fedora Keycap stickers Fedora Loves Python Brochure Fedora Loves Python Stickers Fedora Workstation Guide (English) Fedora Loves .NET hex sticker (black) 2" Round Fedora Women Stickers Silverblue pen (blue) Fedora Modularity sticker NeuroFedora Sticker Fedora Badges Sticker Sheet CPE Sticker Fedora Lenovo Sticker Sheet Fedora tablecloth (blue) 2.25" Spanish 4Fs Button 2.25" Fedora Latam Button Case Badge Strips Fedora Loves Rust Stickers Bannerstand
We discussed this in our weekly Mindshare Committee and have the following updates:
It would be great to include these options: Case badge strips Camera covers T-shirt (not an unending supply, we want to do a tshirt sign up call, make those, and be done) Fedora Key Caps Powered by Fedora sticker Hand sanitizer
I'm going to throw in my 2¢ on each of these, since I'm the one who opened this ticket. :)
Blue Fedora Hex Stickers
Definitely want an update of these.
Fedora Pen (white)
Sure. My wife has strong opinions about which of the Fedora pens were The Good Pens. Let's make sure to get Good Pens. :)
Diversity Stickers
Yes.
1" Round Fedora Pin (blue)
Yeah, affordable easy giveaway.
Fedora Enamel Pins
Less affordable, more special. Save for special occasions?
Fedora Lanyards (Black)
+1 for flock
Fedora Keycap stickers
People definitely want these, but I think if we want them to be more than a gimmick they need to be 1) die-cut to size, 2) extra-strong adhesive, and 3) printed in a way that stands up to constant use so they don't just wear down to white in a month. If we can't get those things in an affordable way, probably best to just not bother.
Fedora Loves Python Brochure Fedora Loves Python Stickers
Rather than reprinting these, I'd like to come up with something new and more specific.
Fedora Workstation Guide (English)
Yeah, this is good to have. Along with the zine gives us something nice to give out to people.
Fedora Loves .NET hex sticker (black)
Same comment as with Python.
2" Round Fedora Women Stickers
Could maybe combine into the Diversity sticker sheet?
Silverblue pen (blue)
I think we need a cohesive plan for edition-specific swag.
Fedora Modularity sticker
Maybe later. :)
NeuroFedora Sticker
.. same comment as on the Edition swag but for non-edition things. It'd be nice for all of these to be part of a general plan.
Fedora Badges Sticker Sheet
Yes; this is nice in particular for contributor-specific swag.
CPE Sticker
CPE can print their own. :)
Fedora Lenovo Sticker Sheet
I really want Lenovo to print these and put them in the box!
Fedora tablecloth (blue)
Ah, in-person events, I miss you!
2.25" Spanish 4Fs Button 2.25" Fedora Latam Button
Ah! Another area where it'd be nice to have a comprehensive strategy. I'm not saying block on it, but let's do these as small runs until we have an overall plan.
Case Badge Strips
These are very very popular at conferences. People who don't like regular stickers think these are nice. Somethign about shiny, I guess.
Fedora Loves Rust Stickers
As above.
Bannerstand
Sure. :)
And from the new list for the things not already covered:
Camera covers
Ah, that's a good idea.
T-shirt (not an unending supply, we want to do a tshirt sign up call, make those, and be done)
When we have a swag supply storefront, I think we should have at least one perpetual design. But we shouldn't make it a perpetual handout.
Powered by Fedora sticker
Different from the case badge?
Hand sanitizer
I was talking about this even before Covid, but just because now everyone is going to be doing it doesn't mean it's not still a good idea.
And, there are few much more expensive items from my initial list:
USB Speaker
Only if it's of decent quality. May not be worth bothering.
Umbrella
I still want this. I have one from I think FUDCon India (I wasn't there, but Kushal brought me swag!) that is nice good quality and which I enjoy taking out. It's a nice functional item that shows off the brand in public and isn't clothes. There aren't many things like that...
Backpack
... well, backpack is another one. Ansible made some very, very nice ones. I can see this as special-occasion swag and/or perhaps something from the storefront.
Coffee mug
Essential for video calls.
@adamwill mentioned his coasters will need replacing. I have some old logo coasters brought back from I think FUDcon Paris? really well made, I still use them too lol
Oh another idea was a guitar pick because of the bubble shape, it could be a neat themed item. (For example we could revive the SXSW "music" pamphlet with an update and maybe have a guitar pick attached to each one or smtg.)
yeah those are the same coasters I was thinking of, I think. marked "Made in UK" on the back, though I don't see a company name. I still use mine too!
And the poker chips...
I have one request and one request only: more Four Foundations swag.
The Four Foundations are one of the most important bedrocks of the Fedora Community. It is hard for me to think of a Fedora contributor who did not feel sentimental towards or empowered by the Four Foundations in some way. Whatever swag we produce, we should increase messaging on the Four Foundations because this is one of the things that makes Fedora, Fedora.
Also, if I had to pick an item… I am particular to drinkware.

@jflory7 OMG I love the idea of having a four-glass set, with one for each foundation!
I looked through the swag vendor's off-the-shelf offerings and I think this is our best option: http://shop.planetlogoinc.com/ProductDetails/?productId=552269357&imageId=42963414&tab=Tile&referrerPage=ProductResults&refPgId=525137991&referrerModule=PRDREB

(It appears closest to our new blue color, and is neither super-expensive nor throw-away cheap.)
This is a weird one, but I got a laugh out of the Fedora temporary tattoos. I still have 5 of them. I thought those were cool. I don't know where we got those, but it would be interesting to have those again. We could do some five year old, or five year old at heart out reachy.
Mindshare is reviewing older tickets and we have concluded this ticket is complete! We got to a lot of these items including: camera covers, tee shirts, coasters, new stickers, key caps, and more! If we decide to re-address swag let's open a new ticket :)
