Name: David Yaffe FAS ID: dyaffe Event Date: May 7-9, 2019 Event Location: Boston Massachusetts Target Audience: approx 7,000 IT Professionals. Wiki Page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Events#FY20_Q1_.28March_2019_-_May_2019.29
I would like to request funding for accommodation expenses for Red Hat Summit 2019. Assuming all approvals are in place, I will be at Summit as a Red Hat Accelerator (https://access.redhat.com/accelerators), but want to spend time working/volunteering at the Fedora Booth. Travel is already paid for, and I should have a pass through the Accelerator program.
I created a table entry in https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Events#FY20_Q1_.28March_2019_-_May_2019.29, for Summit. I did not populate the Owner field, or the Event Box/Vertical Banners fields.
At this time, I am not sure what the cost of the hotel will be (3 nights), but I will update this request once I know.
Hi @dyaffe - Because of the heavy presence of many RH employees I am coordinating our Summit presence personally with @mattdm
I am excited by the idea of having you in our booth. Can you share some of your background in the project and your areas of expertise?
Can you also get a preliminary price for a hotel as it seems this is all of hte funding you need.
I have been talking to @dyaffe offline about participation in RH Summit. This will also be discussed at the 13 March meeting.
Areas of Expertise: For the last decade, my day-to-day job is a Linux Application Administrator. I ensure several big data and OSS applications are up and running for a telco. I hold RHCE in RHEL 5 (expired), RHCSA in RHEL 6 (Expired), and a RHCSA in OpenStack.
The open source applications I am responsible for are Cacti, Nagios, Dokuwiki, and MantisBT. Our enterprise secondary logging platform is built on rsyslog and Gluster. I use python and bash scripting for any dataset preprocessing.
My technical skills focus on technologies like FreeIPA, Cockpit, DNS (ISC bind/named), DHCP (ISC).
I am also active in the Regina chapter of the Red Hat User Group, promoting Fedora Releases, or talking about technologies that get promoted from Fedora to RHEL. Last October I presented on Cockpit.
As for my background with the Fedora Project: - Fedora has been my principle operating system since FC8. - Fedora Ambassador. Mentor was @herlo. - Report bugs, etc. when I can. Including one yesterday to Fedora-admin, with Ipsilon not working properly without an ssh-key in FAS. - I have some experience creating RPM packages
Hotel is now booked. Best rate I could find in a reasonable distance (1/2 hour walk) was $319/night, plus 14.5% hotel tax.
+1
Slightly pricey, but I'm OK with it. +1 from me.
This needs votes to get formal approval. +1
This is approved, barring -1 objections in 5 days - FYI
@dyaffe I remember you posting an event report. Can you link it here? Also did you open a budget ticket for reimbursement?

Hi @dyaffe ,
Can you share with us your event report link?
We need it to close this ticket :crying_cat_face:
We discussed the open tickets tagged needs event report during our Mindshare Committee Meeting in Nov. 4 2020. Based on the extraordinary circumstances of this year, and the length of time since the event took place, we are closing this ticket. Please consider writing a report for the event still, we would welcome it, and make sure to prioritize reporting for future events. Thanks!
