#48 [GSoC] Push Container image updates in bodhi immediately
Closed 5 years ago by ttomecek. Opened 5 years ago by ttomecek.

Difficulty: Intermediate
Technologies: Python, Linux containers, skopeo, podman, pyramid
Mentor:

We are using bodhi to release container images to registry.fedoraproject.org. Since images are just a delivery method of software, we would love to release to registry right away. With the current solution, it may take day(s) for an image to land in the registry.

Upstream repository: https://github.com/fedora-infra/bodhi

How to start

Please follow bodhi's developer documentation: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/docs/developer/index.html

Deliverables

  • Submit code to bodhi upstream which would enable to push images to registry right away.
  • Coordinate with Fedora engineering the deployment of the feature to production.

Still planning to improve the proposal and provide more details.

@ttomecek is this a GSoC 2019 Proposed project?

Yes, it's GSoC. Sorry that I didn't use the template, but I wanted to get some feedback from the CC'd people to complete the proposal.

@ttomecek need some idea on technologies you guys will be using and some deliverables which the GSoC student will be accountable for.

@sumantrom sorry it took so late; I updated the description, it should be more clear now; please let me know if there is anything I should do here

This sounds like an interesting project idea, would you be able to give a more detailed outline on what the work would involve?

This proposal is an outcome of our discussion at DevConf.cz. Right now I'm waiting for others to respond since I'm not familiar with the precise details. I've already sent them an e-mail so hopefully, they would respond today.

I'd also like to make things clear: right now, Fedora is applying as an organization for GSoC, right? Do our proposals need to be final? Can we still polish them in the next week or two?

@ttomecek yes this idea will be listed under mentored projects under fedora now. Feb 26th Google will be declaring the orgs and until then you can polish this :)

It's been more than one week already and I wasn't able to find anyone willing to be a mentor for this project. There was even a suggestion that this might not be needed in the end.

Therefore I'm closing this proposal, thank you, everyone, for your help and sorry we couldn't make it happen.
