#2 add Qt-related types
Opened 6 years ago by ecloud. Modified 6 years ago

/etc/mime.types does not include QML as a type, for example. I have just now gotten a patch approved to get it updated in the "magic" database (for the file utility): https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104480

mime.types does have text/vnd.trolltech.linguist which looks obsolete (TrollTech was no longer a company after 2009 or so, so we should replace trolltech with qt I think) but we haven't gotten that changed yet; and there are other file types: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-64435 which should be gradually added. So I've been trying to figure out where to start with getting them added / updated. In the best case it seems we ought to have IANA-registered MIME types first? but I didn't try to get involved in that process just yet.

Advice is welcome, and in the meantime this is a heads-up that it might be appropriate to get QML into mime.types, at least:

+ text/x-qml qml qmltypes qmlproject

I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate "upstream" repo for /etc/mime.types, but it seems to be the one that Arch Linux uses, at least, which is why I'm reporting it here.

As far as I'm concerned, pretty much the only cases I ended up adding to this package that weren't the official IANA registered ones were accidents/mistakes. Improving the IANA registry improves things for wider audience than Fedora-local mime.types. So I suggest fixing things in IANA, then they'll trickle here when someone syncs the info.
