I want to propose the idea of adding a Fonts component in bugzilla for capturing general fonts issues and requirements, which don't belong to a specific font component.
I actually thought we needed this for a long time, assigning to distribution feels like they will just get lost, those I suppose one could query distribution for bugs containing "font[s]", but having a separate component seems more proactive and easier for users to understand and find. I suppose there may be a bit more triaging needed, on the other hand we already need to triage generic bugs that don't belong to the reported font package.

@petersen can you provide some examples of bugs that would make sense in a generic component as opposed to a specific package?
This could be one recent example (there have been plenty more spread thinly across various packages, relating to fonts rfe's, rendering type issues, distribution, etc):

Another common example is changes to the @fonts group in comps, which really doesn't belong against the fonts package themselves: eg requesting a change to the default font for a particular language, or increasing our default language coverage.

Maybe it's because I don't quite understand the details, but I don't see from those examples an overwhelming need for a separate component.
But if you have a team willing to do the triage, etc, then I don't see a reason to block it. I'll get it created in BZ early next week.
