#68 Funding request for Sandro "red" Mathys
Closed: Fixed None Opened 13 years ago by red.

  • What do you need covered? (Please estimate the costs in USD: hotel $X, travel $Y)

Flight ($970 with US Airways) and hotel (4 nights, 28th - 1st, hopefully shared)

  • If we cannot provide a full subsidy, will a partial subsidy be helpful? (Yes/No)

No

  • What will you accomplish by being at FUDCon? (Please be as specific as possible, since this is the most important factor in granting requests.)

I'll pitch a session about deploying/managing Fedora (or CentOS) with Spacewalk. I'll meet fellow contributors, also trying to get my FUDCon Zurich experience to future FUDCon organizers if wished (maybe we could make that a session too, if other experienced folks help). I'm happy to give a helping hand to the FUDCon organizers during all of FUDCon Tempe

  • If you are requesting airfare, include complete flight information such as flight numbers, desired departure and arrival airports, and times. Also let us know if you have specific time restrictions.

I'm not exactly sure on the flight yet. I'll include this information later/ASAP. I'll see if I can find a cheaper flight.
I might also change the destination (e.g. LAX instead of PHX) and add some days on my personal budget (holidays) but I'll make the flight cost is the same or less then ZRH<>PHX on the given dates.

  • Do you need a visa or other official processing before you can attend FUDCon? If so, approximately how long does that processing take?

No, only ESTA which I can apply for myself and there should be no problems.

Okay, here's the flight details - as announced I'll include LAX, as promised it's cheaper that way so I think this shouldn't disturb you. :)

I'd prefer these flights, with US Airways. Please pay particular attention that I'll arrive at LAX but depart from PHX.

#711 10:25 AM ZRH -> 01:45 PM PHL
#711 04:00 PM PHL -> 07:04 PM LAX

PHX -> ZRH on Tue, Feb 01 2011
#250 09:55 AM PHX -> 04:35 PM PHL
#710 06:10 PM PHL -> 08:05 AM ZRH

Total: USD 891 (including taxes and fees), non-refundable

This airfare is being picked up by Community Architecture outside the FUDCon budget. Sandro, given that I need to rack up >$1000 to transfer costs to Community Architecture, can we wait a week or two to see if the bunker invoice from FUDCon Zurich gets issued? Then I can take care of them all at once.

Basically this works for me, I'm just a bit worried about the cheap flights no longer being available if we wait too long.

I understand and agree. Because of that, let's agree to make this call October 28. If we don't have an invoice from the bunker by then, I'll have Max buy this ticket immediately. Neither way is more complicated; putting these two costs together simply lets me take care of everything myself.

I'll look to Sandro and Marcus to keep after the bunker staff to get this invoice in hand. Sound good?

Should I be buying this today?

Sorry, missed this earlier - stickster bought that ticket for me already. Right now it's my task to find a room mate who's being sponsored as well, and a room...been too busy since I finally got the plane ticket (and really didn't want to do it before). :/

Is there some kind of list where I can easily see who's sponsored but has no room mate yet?

I apologize for not having a better suggestion than this Sandro. We don't have an easy way to track both subsidies and roommates at the same time, given the way our wiki pre-registration works. But you can find most of the subsidized people on this listing:

http://tinyurl.com/fudcon-tempe-subods

This was a spreadsheet we set up for tracking meetings; I believe we'll end up moving the data off elsewhere once all subsidies are complete.

So in any case... You can find people on that list, and then you should be able to correlate it with the wiki pre-registration list to see who's not got a roommate assigned yet, since attendees were asked to indicate their roommate choices or assignments in that table:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Tempe_2011#Pre-registration

Hope this helps.

The ticket cost was $854.50, for planner reference.
