#173 Funding request for Eugene Teo
Closed: Fixed None Opened 13 years ago by eteo.

Hi,

I was advised to file a ticket for my funding ticket.

I am unable to find the "FUDCon India 2011" component, so I picked the closest option I can find.

  • What do you need covered? (Please estimate the costs in USD: hotel $X, travel $Y)

Air travel: ~USD$700 from Singapore to Mumbai (two way).
Other travel: from Mumbai to Pune, and back, not sure yet.
Hotel/lodging: Still finding, not sure yet

Will need help from the organisers.

  • If we cannot provide a full subsidy, will a partial subsidy be helpful? (Yes/No)

No.

  • What will you accomplish by being at FUDCon? (Please be as specific as possible, since this is the most important factor in granting requests.)

1) I would like to give two presentations.
a) On open source security:- How the Red Hat Security Response Team deals with security issues affecting Fedora and upstream open source projects. Fedora users will have a better awareness and appreciation of how we deal security issues in the upstream, and learn how they can source for information they need to ensure they have installed updated packages that addressed security issues.
b) on SystemTap:- Explain what SystemTap is, given an overview of SystemTap and the scripting language, provide a technology update, and showcase interesting kernel/user-space scripts.

2) Talk to people at FUDCon, find out how we can improve our involvement in the Fedora security team, gather feedback for the perftools team, etc.

3) Attend the FUDCon, interact with contributors and colleagues in Pune I have worked with for the past 5+ years but had not have the opportunity to meet them in real life.

4) Meet my ex-Fedora GSoC mentee. I supervised a GSoC project under the Fedora Project organisation. She works for us now, but I haven't had the chance to meet her in real life, too :)

  • Do you need a visa or other official processing before you can attend FUDCon? If so, approximately how long does that processing take?

Yes. According to this website, http://www.india-visa.com/singapore-info.htm#visa-fees, it's about USD$17 for a transit visa (Upto 15 days single/double entry). The High Commission requires one working day to process my VISA application.

  • Include any additional, relevant information.

I need to return on Nov 5th night or Nov 6th morning.

This ticket was approved in the August 5th subsidy meeting. We've agreed to pay up to $700 USD for airfare, as well as four nights in the hotel, plus taxi to/from Mumbai.

Please note that since you've marked yourself as not sharing a room on the wiki, you'll need to either pay for half of the room cost out of your own pocket, or agree to share a room with someone else.

The details for VISA applications and ticket bookings were mailed on 1st September, 2011.

The applicant responded immediately and is in touch regarding VISA, travel and accommodation.

As discussed with Rahul, I would like to be reimbursed for the visa charges. The fees for a conference visa is SGD$145 (~USD$130) and a business visa is SGD$215 (~USD$180). If I am unable to get the conference visa, I will have to get the business visa. Thanks.

Has this been reimbursed?

Yes. Harish has done this
