At the subsidy meeting 9/14/10, we agreed to fund half a hotel room. We understand that SL is likely going to fund the airfare. If that changes, please let us know by updating this ticket and emailing the list.

Who or what is SL?

SL = Sugar Labs

That news to me! Sugar Labs have never sponsored me in the past to go to FUDCon. All the FUDCons I've been to in the past I've paid 100% myself including any holidays I've had to take. Unfortunately I can't afford to continue to do so for a number of reasons which I'm happy to discuss face to face (I will be at FUDCon Zurich) but not in a ticket for the world and his dog to see. If you know more about the Sugar Labs comment please feel free to fill me in out of band.

Hi Peter, smparrish told us in the subsidy meeting that he was personally talking to Walter Bender at Sugar Labs about this, and that chances were good they would be able to buy your airfare. If the SL sponsorship falls through, I will talk to Max Spevack about whether we can get you a plane ticket through the general Community Architecture budget.

We completely understand that you can't finance a plane ticket out of pocket. No need to explain here, as I'm sure many of us would have similar reasons! :-) Our objective is to get as many key contributors to FUDCon as possible, and talking to SL was one way to accomplish that.

I'm going to assign this ticket to Steven for now, and mark it for our next planning meeting so we stay abreast of the status.

I think my status report above in [https://fedorahosted.org/fudcon-planning/ticket/16#comment:6 comment #6] was the problem here. I didn't fill in enough information for Peter to know that ''we'' the organizers -- not he -- were talking to Sugar Labs about this. That probably made him think that we expected him to go tin-cupping to Sugar Labs, which was not ''at all'' our intention.

Steven has been talking to Sugar Labs and because Peter didn't know that before he saw the comment, I'm sure it made him think we were brushing him off to get his funding elsewhere. That would have been a ludicrous thing to do because Peter has never been funded by SL before.

If I could go back in time and rewrite that comment, it would say something like this:

"At the subsidy meeting 9/14/10, we agreed to fund half a hotel room. Steven Parrish is talking to Sugar Labs about subsidizing an airfare, which could cover Peter's travel. That's likely to happen, and if it doesn't we'll cover this out of general Comm-Arch funding. If any of Peter's plans change, he can note that in this ticket and we'll adapt accordingly."

Maybe Peter didn't know about Steven's convo with SL, but I think even if he didn't, that update would have made the situation much clearer than my comment above.

Thank you Paul for the clarification, its much appreciated. smparrish please update the ticket once you have more information.

Still awaiting an answer from SL. Will ping Walter for update

Ping'd Walter today, and cc'd Peter. Waiting for a reply

Steven

Steven, any news on Peter's airfare from SL?

Nothing yet, Ping'd Walter again today. Waiting for a response

Walter responded he is 95% sure he will get the funding. Will work on it until that number is 100%

Walter just advised me that this should be taken care of. Bradley as SFC should have been in touch with Peter to finalize the details and purchase the ticket. If that is so we should be able to close this one.

Peter can you confirm this is the case?

Per followup emails Peter has not heard from Bradley @ SFC as of yet. Will continue to monitor

Steven

Peter advises he has been intouch with Bradley at SFC and this is being handled.
