If this is not a valid option it should be removed. If the output goes into some file it should be documented in a man page. If the file needs to be specified it should be documented.
It is a valid option and output does not go to a file.
It doesn't do a whole lot of extra in ldap mode other than display the search it is going to perform.
In GSSAPI mode it displays the XML-RPC exchange.
I think it should then be listed in a man page since it was confusing. I was expecting it to help me with the output pretty much in the same way as ipa-client-install does. It this expectation is wrong it should be set right. It is not a high priority issue so I do not think it is a big deal but it is worth cleaning at some point.
