Ticket was cloned from Red Hat Bugzilla (product Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7): Bug 1622015
Description of problem: When installing IPA server using the script ipa-server-install, the script asks various questions. One of these questions being asked is for IPA admin password and Directory admin password. These questions are asked twice to ensure the correct password is being set. The problem is, that the script asks these questions before performing other sanity checks (hostname, domain existence, need for DNS server,...). I think we should perform as many of these checks before asking for any password - imagine you spend some time typing in a secure password of your choice several times and then see the script has failed because of some banality configuration issue. Ideally, we should ask the admin for password once all prerequisite checks have passed and we are fairly certain the installation will proceed fine.
