The user is reporting that following weird messages from installer while doing replica promotion on FreeIPA 4.3.0:
2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Check if dc2-ipa-dev-van.mydomain.net is a primary hostname for localhost 2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Primary hostname for localhost: dc2-ipa-dev-van.mydomain.net 2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Search DNS for dc2-ipa-dev-van.mydomain.net 2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Check if dc2-ipa-dev-van.mydomain.net is not a CNAME 2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Check reverse address of 10.21.0.98 2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Found reverse name: dc2-ipa-dev-van.mydomain.net 2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Check if dc1-ipa-dev-nvan.mydomain.net is a primary hostname for localhost 2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Primary hostname for localhost: dc1-ipa-dev-nvan.mydomain.net.mydomain.net
The problem here is that last message
2016-01-18T03:00:07Z DEBUG Primary hostname for localhost: dc1-ipa-dev-nvan.mydomain.net.mydomain.net
is result of check on remote side (the running master), but this is not in any way distinguishable from messages generated locally.
This should be fixed so log readers are not confused.
Log collectors can add tags that will disambiguate things. It is actually preferred to do it this way.
Yes, in general. This ticket is about messages printed by ipa-replica-install, so no log collectors are in play. These messages are printed directly to console.
Same thing with check/adding/updating of remote replica entry during replica installation.
This ticket is out of scope of 4.4.0 release. Moving to 4.4.1. Note that 4.4.1 needs to be triaged, therefore not everything will be implemented.
moving out tickets not implemented in 4.4.1
4.4.2 is a stabilization milestone. If this bug is important stabilization bug then please put it to NEEDS TRIAGE milestone for retriage.
