#506 Verify uninstall() functions restore saved config files
Closed: Invalid None Opened 13 years ago by simo.

In uninstall() we should always explicitly restore files we do not own, but manage, that we have saved during install.
This is something that need to be explicitly done and has probably slipped in some cases.

But only if they have not changed since the installation. Otherwise we might get in collision with other config management tools like Puppet.

Uninstall is not a production supported tool IMO.
It is mostly for development, and we want to cleanup to make sure the next time we test the install we are working on a "clean" machine as much as possible.

So imho we just have to clean up all.
If this is not what is needed then I think we should add a ticket to get a uninstall option like --clean-all so that one can choose whether to let the machine littered with changes or revert all changes since installation.

Yes a flag makes more sense to me.
