#5009 [RFE] Add traffic shaping policies
Closed: Invalid None Opened 9 years ago by ofayans.

Sometimes an admin is requested to limit the network bandwith a user or group of users is consuming. It would be nice to be able to define domain-wide traffic-shaping policies centrally through FreeIPA.
There is a Python library named [pyroute2 ] that allows to interact with the network stack via the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netlink/ netlink] interface. It allows you to control the networking parameters of the remote systems it is installed on as well. Thus we can use it to set the whole variety of networking parameters on the client hosts, including bandwidth limits, service prioritization (through http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/manual/theory.htm/ HTB), vlans, etc.

Is IPA really the right tool for such central management? Would Foreman + Puppet be a better place or some network management software like oVirt or Proton?

Can you please justify why IPA should get into this business?

IPA is not the right tool for this.
