There are some simple LDAP updater tests in ipatests/test_install. At one time in order to run the tests you had to put your DM password into ~/.ipa/.dmpw. I suppose it might be made to work via root autobind if you're willing to run the tests as root.
Integration tests always have root. And a fresh DS install they can destroy.
