#3965 [RFE] IPA Web UI: When editing A/AAAA record in DNS there could be a check box to sync the reverse record
Closed: wontfix 5 years ago Opened 10 years ago by thozza.

When adding A/AAAA record in DNS for particular domain name using Web UI, there is a check box "create reverse" that can be used to easily create PTR record for the added record.

However when editing A/AAAA record in DNS for particular domain name using Web UI, there is no way how can be the PTR record changed to reflect the modification. The user has to change the PTR record manually. This is also place where the user can do a mistake.

I think it would improve usability of the Web UI DNS part if there was a check box "sync reverse" when editing A/AAAA record.

Related ticket: #3905. We might want to do the same for deletion of the A/AAAA record.

IMO it's good idea. If I understand it correctly, the proposal is to:

  • create option {{{--sync-reverse}}}

which would

  • replace {{{--create-reverse}}} in add commands
  • have the same meaning as {{{--delete-reverse}}} described in #3905
  • add the described behavior to mod commands

It can be also just Web UI feauture which would just use appropriate API options (where 2 do not exist atm).

Q: To we want to have just {{{--sync-reverse}}} or {{{--a-sync-reverse}}} and {{{--aaaa-sync-reverse}}}?
