I installed FreeIPA on my local network. I gave the box a hostname of freeipa.local. During install, FreeIPA inferred that I wanted a domain of 'local'. After installation, however, I am unable to add users: "invalid 'email': invalid e-mail format: foo@local".
FreeIPA should either support adding email addresses like this or should refuse to let you create an install with a "broken" domain.
I have seen this and reported a month ago. I think we decided to turn it into warning rather than error and not create an email in this case. I can't find a ticket thought.

Thanks!
Although this is closed, it might be useful for folks with this issue to know about a work-around: Delete the default email domain (in the UI: IPA Server tab -> configuration -> User Options -> Default e-mail domain) before creating users..
