#2887 [RFE] Allow the UI to have different layouts
Closed: fixed 5 years ago Opened 11 years ago by dpal.

With more an more mobile devices being used for different purposes we should start thinking about good UI layout for smaller screens.

For example it might be that IPA will be managed using iPad or some other tablet in recent times. In this case the layout should be adjusted to better fit the screen and avoid unnecessary scrolling.

In particular at RH Summit we had a brief discussion about having a button that can switch between 2 display modes.

One is the current layout, the other would move all the tabs (high level and second level) on a side pane on the left. This allows better use of wide screens that has low vertical resolution but a large horizontal resolution, maximizing the use of screen estate. Think of ultra small laptops or tablets used in landscape mode.

The current layout wastes a lot of screen estate at the top leaving you little space on the bottom to scroll the actual content you are interested to see and modify most of the time. By moving the top tabs to the side the vertical scrolling pane becomes much larger and a lot more content can be seen in one sweep.

This should be handled by the patternfly CSS the UI uses, marking as fixed.
