Persistent search will be automatically enabled during upgrade to IPA 3.0. It will be required for DNS zone transfer support (SOA serial number update).

FreeIPA project no longer actively maintains an upstream guide ([see details]). This particular ticket should be already fixed in an actively maintained RHEL downstream guides (http://www.freeipa.org/page/Documentation#User_Documentation list of guides). Please open a downstream Bugzilla if the fix is incomplete.
