SLAPI plugins has to be compiled against the same libldap library as 389-ds core. If the core is compiled against libldap_r, we have to detect it and use.
Currently FreeIPA compiles unconditionally against libldap_r.
Moving to next month iteration.

This is an old bug. We haven't seen any issues related to libldap / libldap_r in a long time. IMO it's fair to say that we only support libldap_r builds. By now, all systems should have libldap_r, too.
Please reopen the ticket if you think that we still have to address the issue.
