#1355 IPA management guide should discuss strategy when dealing with home directories on IPA servers
Closed: Fixed None Opened 12 years ago by abbra.

IPA management guide currently has chapter 5.5 File Systems which discusses how home directories are accessible on IPA clients. There is, however, no explanation on what is expected or proposed for IPA servers. As IPA server does not create user home directories when users are created, the whole logic is left to system administrators.

Some expansion of chapter 5.5 is needed to cover common cases:

- autocreation of home directories on server with pam_mkhomedir (run authconfig --enablemkhomedir, since ipa-server-install automatically runs ipa-client-install without chance to affect the options passed to it and thus suggestion in chapter 5.5 for IPA clients does not work here)

- use of separate home directories' server and automounting those on IPA server.

It's brief right now, but it's there. I moved this from the client setup section to the users chapter, because this really relates more to managing users (servers and clients) than client config alone. I also extended the PAM module part a bit and added an example on autmounting home directories.

I'm publishing the updated version; it should be there in a couple hours.
