Last night my module build failed when koji couldn't check out one of my components (of course it was the last one) due to a typo in the ref field.
ref
This should have been caught by the init components check. Either it didn't run or it failed to catch this problem. The ref was 008eb7a5d21be81e36e67658f6c9bb8327f3eb9a) (notice the closing paren).

This was addressed in PR #728 but was reverted due to a bug described in: https://pagure.io/fm-orchestrator/c/e91f4fdea6fad1e8602e9574be5141aaeeada37e?branch=master
@mcurlej, can you take a look please?
FYI, an example of a module with such refs is here: https://src.fedoraproject.org/modules/fonts/blob/master/f/fonts.yaml#_632
The hashes really exist. But trying to check them with git ls-remote --exit-code fails.
git ls-remote --exit-code
Addressed in PR #783 and PR #788
