#1756 RFE: use branch name as default component ref

This is a restart of #1226 which was rejected 3 years ago.

Currently, if component refs are not specified, we default to conf.default_branch, which isn't really useful to anyone. @vondruch suggests using the branch name for the submitted build.

This feature has been implemented in #1760, depending on #1746.
