= Questions/Requested Information

  1. What’s your proposal? Be specific about what you want to accomplish, how this helps the project and the attendees. Review [link to CFP] for details on what we’re looking for.

Several years ago I became interested in freeing myself from "pay with your data" services, and wanted to learn a bit more about hosting my own infrastructure, so I decided to free myself from the clutches of Big Data®. In this talk, I will present how I used Fedora Server together with Cyanogenmod (and later LineageOS) to free my data from the control of others. I will talk about the various problems I encountered, how I solved them, and even about problems that remain (not everything is as easy to do as it had been - freedom has a cost!).

  1. Who needs to be in the room for this to succeed? List each person by Name and FAS ID as Name (FAS ID)
    * Randy Barlow (bowlofeggs)
    * Adrian Reber (adrian)

  2. Is this a … (Delete all that DO NOT apply)
    * Talk of 60 minutes
    * 2 hour workshop

Note: I had a hard time deciding whether this should be a workshop. If we made it a workshop, I could help people set up a service to work with their phone as a step towards freedom, but with only 2 hours we wouldn't be able to cover a complete switch.

  1. Anything else we need to know? This could be room setup, A/V needs, etc. If you have private concerns, please email them to flock-admin@fedoraproject.org.

N/A/

  1. Who are you?
    * Name: Randy Barlow
    * FAS ID: bowlofeggs
    * IRC Nick, if not FAS ID: bowlofeggs
  • Name: Adrian Reber
  • FAS ID: adrian
  • IRC Nick: adrianr

I would like to list @adrian as a co-speaker for this talk.

This seems very end-user focused to me. Is there a plan to have some sort of project-level deliverable, like bringing some improvements to better support this to Fedora Server?

If not, I'd rather send you to present this as a talk on using Fedora to non-Fedora-centric user conference (LinuxCon or a LinuxFest or something).

Not really - it is pretty user focused.

Fair enough.

I regret that we are unable to accept this talk this year. There will be lightning talk sessions and I encourage you to consider this option.
