#342 [Talk-25] Hassle-free throw-away VM's with Testcloud
Closed: Talk Scheduled 2 years ago by riecatnor. Opened 2 years ago by frantisekz.

= What is your proposal?

testcloud is a handy tool for downloading and booting Cloud images locally. Testcloud supports wide range of distributions, namely Fedora, Fedora CoreOS, CentOS, CentOS Stream, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Debian and Ubuntu.

Do you need to do some testing in a clean environment, on a different Fedora version, or in a completely different distribution? Do you need a full blown VM, and containers aren't enough?

You don't have to memorize all those long qemu/virt-install commands. With testcloud you're just t7d instance create fedora away from having a clean virtual machine prepared for you!

Testcloud provides quick and developer friendly way of managing entire virtual machine's life cycle with focus on ease of use and maximum comfort.

It comes with short distribution handles, so you don't have to keep looking for correct links to images of distributions and their versions all the time. You can just tell testcloud to use fedora:rawhide, it'll fetch the latest compose and prepare the vm for you.

Apart from the cli interface, testcloud provides an easy to use, yet powerful python api, so you can use testcloud in your scripts, projects and applications. Also, testcloud can run either in system mode or in constrained user session mode, which is useful for running it e.g. in unprivileged containers.
