#297 [Talk-25 or Workshop]: Creating custom 8-bit maps
Closed: Talk Scheduled 3 years ago by riecatnor. Opened 3 years ago by dhairya15.

What is your proposal?
The hallway track for the F34 release party used a custom Work Adventure map that was created using Tiled (which is a free and open-source tool for creating maps like this). Custom maps on platforms like Work Adventure can be really cool as they allow a new and fun way to interact. They can be also be put to personal use if they're used to host parties and get-togethers (more relevant in the current situation). Tiled can also be used to make games and whatnot (more here: https://www.mapeditor.org/).

This would either be a talk on the process behind making a custom map with some hands-on tutorial/demo content or a workshop. For the workshop, people would need to install Tiled. They don't really need to make any artwork themselves as there are many tilesets available online on websites like itch.io. We could also potentially make our own tileset and share that with the attendees (with the Fedora characters, some themed content, and anything that they would be needed to get started)! The tool itself is pretty simple to use (mostly just drag and drop). I think people could have a lot of fun with this!

Who in addition to the speaker needs to be in the virtual room for this to succeed?
I'm not sure about this one, but I can't think of anyone

Is this a…

Hi @dhairya15 - Thank you for your submission!

Your session has not been accepted in the first pass on creating the schedule. The review team felt other session topics were more Fedora related. What if you reworked this idea to be a 25 minute talk on "Making Custom 8-Bit Maps for Fedora" where you show your process of making work adventure maps and explain what you learned?

If you are open to reworking the idea, we would are open to having this session at Nest. If you would, please review the following Wiki link and let me know if there is a place you think it would fit in that works for your availability. The schedule will be locked by Friday July 30th. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Nest_with_Fedora_2021_Schedule

If you have further questions or need assistance, feel free to email mnordin@redhat.com or drop those inquiries on this ticket. Thanks!
