#249 [Hack-half] FWD '20 Global Organizing Team Hackfest
Closed: Talk Scheduled 3 years ago by riecatnor. Opened 3 years ago by orionstar25.

The session would be best live.

What is your proposal?

Usually we use Flock as a chance to finalize FWD planning. This year we are planning to host a virtual FWD. It was felt that it will be easier to have a "global" organizing team that will work on all topics mentioned below and start planning FWD'20. Therefore, the hackfest would center around creating and formalizing an organizing team that will:

  • decide on the dates
  • go through last year/s feedback and improve things for this year
  • open call for local FWD organizers
  • improve the event organizer pack
  • other things that will come up :) (such as help local organizers to find speakers, FWD badge, event reports, metrics etc)

Stretch goals:

  • suggest ways to on-board new D&I members
  • create good first issues for potential members
  • incorporate material that address imposter syndrome and systematic bias

Who in addition to the speaker needs to be in the virtual room for this to succeed?

Is this a…

  • FAD/Hackfest that lasts a half-day

Who are you?

  • Name: Niharika Shrivastava
  • FAS ID: orionstar25
  • IRC Nick, if not FAS ID:
  • Timezone: GMT +5:30 (India/Kolkata)

Thanks @orionstar25 . :100:

I'll be attending this, super excited ^_^

Awesome @hirat!

I am starting to wonder if we should structure this in a creative way. I think expecting us to stay in a 2 or 3 hour video call is going to be tough. Maybe it makes more sense to break this up into smaller chunks. And maybe APAC folks could "hand off" to the NA/LATAM folks in the few hours of the day when the sun is out for both of us. :)

Will bring up in #fedora-diversity soon.

Your session has been accepted for Nest with Fedora. I made a change to the title: "Fedora Women's Day: Going virtual for 2020". Please review the attached schedule (PDF) and advise ASAP if there are any conflicts. The timezone used for the attached schedule is EST. Schedule will be locked by Tuesday August 4th. If you have further questions or need assistance, feel free to email mnordin@redhat.com or drop those inquiries on this ticket. Thanks!

@riecatnor Thank you for the acceptance! What is the timezone followed in the schedule above?

@orionstar25 that was an important detail to leave out, duh! Lol. This is EST :)

I personally would want it to finish in one instance rather than divide it timezone wise. Because that would involve catching up on things from the other half and there is still no guarantee that it won't result in clashes in ideas.

I stand +1 with the above schedule. Waiting for others' response.

If we have a single, large session, we should set clear expectations for when we will talk about topics important for local organizers. We want to include them, but we could focus the agenda for 30 minutes to local organizers and have time for Q&A. This way it will be easier to plan.

I think this will be more inclusive of folks who are juggling child or elder care to better participate.

+1 as well. I will work with @orionstar25 to create the agenda with specific time about the topics we want to cover.

Hi! Nest with Fedora is beginning shortly. I want to thank you for speaking at this years contributor conference, your time and effort is appreciated :)

I have outlined the basic process for speakers below. If you have questions, feel free to drop them here and I will do my best to answer them before the event begins.

How to get to your session:
Enter the event
Go to Sessions tab on the left at the correct time
Click your session
Accept permissions for audio/video
You're in!

Sessions are set up as moderated by the speakers. There is a maximum of 10 people on screen at once, though people can leave the screen and different attendees can request permission to join. The speaker(moderator) will have a moderation panel on the bottom left hand side to allow or deny the request. If you feel you need someone besides yourself to help with moderation, please make sure they are registered for the event and provide their full name here. Anyone can watch and participate in the chat. Sessions will be recorded.

To share slides, there is an option at the bottom to share your screen, where you can choose the window/tab to share. To share a video with audio, you can share your screen and play the audio on loud speaker (so your mic picks it up). Screen sharing works just as other video conferencing tools (like Google Meet, Bluejeans etc).

If you have technical issues during your session, contact one of the attendees labelled "Organiser" or myself, Marie Nordin, through the platforms direct message function.

Cheers!
