#231 Free stickers!

Once upon a time there was the Fedora Free Media program.
In these times of lockdowns and inability to organize in person events, so the possibility to distribute and get some swag is limited.

For instance, I have some stickers. After the last event in October, I had some left. I hoped to distribute them during some subsequent event in my area, but you know what happened.
So, I have these stickers. They risk to become old (the new logo is near).
I'm happy to send some stickers to anyone who enjoy them. Obviously if shipment costs are low (in my case: EU countries).

This idea was born from a @jflory7 joke
What do you think about a Free sticker program? It would be totally on a voluntary basis, best effort, pledge-free, community driven, maybe in an informal way. And limited in time, just until we will be able to organize in person event again.

We could test it during Flock/Nest, and see how it goes.

I am ready and willing to contribute my bajillion Silverblue stickers. And of course, other stickers I have lying around.

@alciregi How do you think we do the distribution? Any ideas? A Google Form?

Some people have concerns about Google. In addition we need to collect personal data in order to ship the stickers (GDPR and the like).
Pagure with private tickets doesn't work?

@alciregi @jflory7 this idea is cool :) I just want to hint that I am working on some sticker/swag solutions for Nest with Fedora. I don't know if that changes things for this idea... as people still have stockpiles of all kinds of stuff. Do we know how the Fedora Free Media Program worked with acquiring addresses and payment for shipments?

Maybe @ankursinha might be able to help.

Addresses were included in the request tickets that people filed. (This is why all tickets were private and members of the free-media group vetted). The free-media volunteers paid from their own pockets for everything: dvds/media, packaging, shipment.

I think that is a fine way to do it in this instance. That is how we currently take swag shipment requests as well

So we could create a dedicated pagure repository, invite people that would be happy to ship their stockpiles of stickers around the world to join some dedicated FAS group, and inform people that would like to receive some of them to file a private ticket.
If this doesn't conflict with your work on some sticker/swag solutions for Nest with Fedora.

@alciregi I'm on board. If you can create the repo and drive this work, I am glad to be a helper and sticker shipper. :)

If we do this for Nest, I would suggest to make the more interactive version of it. Rather than communication via Pagure, choose one of the communication channels (Matrix, Discussions, IRC), set a dedicated session in the schedule for people to join that channel and talk about themselves.

This way we 1) make it more relevant to the conf 2) promote one of our regular communication channels 3) add interactivity and visibility of where fedorians come from.

People are more likely to stay in that channel once they used it for something.

@alciregi @jflory7 I have been working to gather swag and manage logistics to send swag bags out to our contributors for Nest. If you noticed the registration requests shipping info. Do you think that will satisfy our need for swag?

I am certainly not against this idea, though it could present some challenges to people: getting to the post office during COVID, costs of shipping, managing the requests/repo etc.

I also think this would be a great in person event for a future Flock, a sticker exchange :)

Yep @riecatnor I've seen the registration form.
Even if I thought that this proposal was a good idea, it could become a big effort for volunteer people to send stickers if requests go out of control and in the other hand it could lead to frustration for people requesting stickers that have expectations to receive them.
Maybe the best thing to do, at least for me, is to try to distribute stickers to my friends, colleagues and in local communities (i.e. Italian users, etc.)

I concur with @riecatnor and @alciregi. Since Fedora is sending swag packs with the help of our RH Events friends, I think that satisfies the need for now.

I do think this would be a nice pairing with the Candy Swap for future Flocks. :)

Thanks again for the suggestion!!

@alciregi that sounds great :)
