    • From the train and bus station and the city center: we have two preferred and more additional suggested venues. 9. Why should Flock be held in this city? Why is this good for Fedora?
Why is this good for the attendees? What cultural atractions and
evening activities are available? Is a city tour possible?

Answer: Wrocław having 638,000 inhabitants is the fourth-largest city in Poland and also the largest one in its western part. It is a capital of Lower Silesian Voivodeship and a historical capital of Silesia. At various time it belonged to Poland, Duchy of Silesia, Bohemian (Czech) Kingdom, Habsburg (Austrian) Empire, Prussia/Germany. Since 1945 again it belongs to Poland. Its dramatic history makes it a unique European city of mixed heritage. It is also one of the most beautiful cities of the country. It lies on the banks of Oder river, its 12 islands and has 117 bridges. Wrocław is a city of science, 11 universities and 135,000 students. In the early 20th century University of Wrocław (then called Universität zu Breslau) produced nine Nobel Prize winners: Max Born, Paul Ehrlich, Fritz Haber, Philipp Lenard, Erwin Schrödinger, Otto Stern, and many more, plus 6 more related with other universities of the region. After the second world war, in 1959 the production of the first Polish mainframe computers Odra was started here. Nowadays Wrocław is a city of growing economy. Lots of domestic and foreign companies including those of high-tech, computer hardware and software manufacturers have their branches there. Wrocław’s Sky Tower is the highest or the second highest building of the country, depending on the method of measure. It’s worth noting that Wrocław is not the top tourist destination so the prices do not rise during the summer. People really don’t know what they miss! And, last but not least, Wrocław is a city of dwarves. Fancy finding them all?

    • Walking tour: Definitely possible and recommended. In Wrocław there is a Free Walking Tour as well as other offers.
    • Evening dinner: Piwnica Świdnicka (est. 1273) in the Market Square claims to be the oldest restaurant in Europe. It has 9 rooms and can host 800 guests. Of course Wroclaw has hundreds of other restaurants. Other ideas are welcome as well.
    • Ship cruise became an unofficial tradition of European Flocks. Wrocław is placed on the banks of Oder river which is accessible for river ships. Wratislavia is the largest river ship in Poland: has 3 decks, can take 400 passengers, features a restaurant and even a conference room. Also it’s worth to check the offer of Żegluga Pasażerska Wrocław
    • Games Night (Filip), International Candy Swap (Justin?)
  10. Are there any other conferences within a 3 week period of your
proposed dates? Consider events likely to be attended by high
numbers of Fedora Contributors, such as Guadec, Akademy, Open Source
Summit, etc. Are there any local holidays and events in within a 3
week period of your proposed dates?

Answer: None. The nearest public holiday is August 15. Note that the summer holidays (school break) start on July 23.

  11. Please list two vegetarian restaurants within walking distance of the venue.

    Answer:

    • Near HP Park Plaza: Green Bus (0.23 km, 0.15 mi); Wilk Syty (0.5 km, 0.3 mi)
    • Near Campanile Centrum: Nalanda (1.2 km, 0.75 mi); The Root (2.1 km, 1.3 mi)

Note that those above are vegetarian-only, you can probably order a vegetarian option in most restaurants.

  12. How far is the venue from the city center? How far is the venue from
    the "social/hangout" area of town?

Answer: All venues are in the city center, near or inside the old town. Distance from the Market Square in the list of venues above.
