Why should Flock be held in this city? Why is this good for Fedora? Why is this good for the attendees? What cultural atractions and evening activities are available? Is a city tour possible?
Answer: Wrocław having 638,000 inhabitants is the fourth-largest city in Poland and also the largest one in its western part. It is a capital of Lower Silesian Voivodeship and a historical capital of Silesia. At various time it belonged to Poland, Duchy of Silesia, Bohemian (Czech) Kingdom, Habsburg (Austrian) Empire, Prussia/Germany. Since 1945 again it belongs to Poland. Its dramatic history makes it a unique European city of mixed heritage. It is also one of the most beautiful cities of the country. It lies on the banks of Oder river, its 12 islands and has 117 bridges. Wrocław is a city of science, 11 universities and 135,000 students. In the early 20th century University of Wrocław (then called Universität zu Breslau) produced nine Nobel Prize winners: Max Born, Paul Ehrlich, Fritz Haber, Philipp Lenard, Erwin Schrödinger, Otto Stern, and many more, plus 6 more related with other universities of the region. After the second world war, in 1959 the production of the first Polish mainframe computers Odra was started here. Nowadays Wrocław is a city of growing economy. Lots of domestic and foreign companies including those of high-tech, computer hardware and software manufacturers have their branches there. Wrocław’s Sky Tower is the highest or the second highest building of the country, depending on the method of measure. It’s worth noting that Wrocław is not the top tourist destination so the prices do not rise during the summer. People really don’t know what they miss! And, last but not least, Wrocław is a city of dwarves. Fancy finding them all?
Are there any other conferences within a 3 week period of your proposed dates? Consider events likely to be attended by high numbers of Fedora Contributors, such as Guadec, Akademy, Open Source Summit, etc. Are there any local holidays and events in within a 3 week period of your proposed dates?
