Closed: Resolved 4 years ago by riecatnor. Opened 4 years ago by darkaxl017.

1. What is your proposal?

Fedora Containers Lab It is a tech talk that teaches how to manage and create containers from scratch. Using simple examples, with skopeo, podman and buildah, I'll show you how to create from a basic container based on the images of the fedora registry, up to custom containers and based on Dockerfile files and even how to use these containers to learn the principles of using kubernetes.

This tech talk was presented during the FLISoL 2019 in Mexico City, in different venues.

You can check the slides (in spanish) here. As well as some photographs taken during the presentation here.

2. Who in addition to the speaker needs to be in the room for this to succeed?

  • Public who wants to learn how to use containers

If it's possible, my partners in crime:

  • Alberto Rodriguez Sanchez (bt0dotninja)
  • Efren Antonio Robledo Moreno (srkraken)

3. Is this a…

  • 25/50 minutes: Talk

4. Anything else we need to know?

  • American plug and/or universal converter for A/V
  • Video projector
  • Internet access

5. Who are you?

  • Name: Alex Callejas
  • FAS ID: darkaxl017

Are you proposing a 25 or a 50 minute talk or a workshop?

Hi @bex , I can give this talk in 3 formats: as a short tech-talk of 25 minutes, a long tech-talk with a 50 minute with demo or as a 90 minute workshop. I adapt to the version that best suits to you. Tks!

@darkaxl017 please select your preferred format.

@bex done! my best version is 25 or 50 minute talk, the time depends if I can do the demo or not. Tks!

This seems like a user-focused talk rather than something for Flock. Could the talk be adapted to focus specifically on getting Fedora contributors more comfortable working with containers (for their Fedora work, or to better build Fedora things which are container-friendly)?

Hi Matt!

An apology, yes I saw the changes that you suggest, but I had not had an opportunity to follow up. I'm very interested, it would be my first international tech-talk, and attending the flock is a goal that I have not yet achieved.

This tech-talk I thought to bring the common user towards the use of podman instead of Docker, step by step, but I do not know if the same approach would be useful to Fedora contributors. The talk only shows simple examples of containers and how to create a test Lab with KVM.

What other aspects would you like me to cover in it?

The tech-talk goes from creating a Lab VM, installing the rpm, creating containers, creating custom images and from there generating a yaml for kubernetes.

Thank you very much for the opportunity, I will do my best.

@bt0dotninja and @srkraken -- if you'll be attending, please email me your preferred email address for sched.org and I'll add you to the talk. Thanks.

Hi @mattdm , an apology for for the inconvenience, unfortunately I did not get the travel funding and I will not attend the flock.

Thank you very much for the opportunity, I hope to participate soon.

Best regards,
