= Overview = Requesting the orphaning of libsndfile due to long-term lack of maintainer response to a security bug
This bug has been open for more than a year, and been closed by other maintainers -- the primary maintainer itself has not touched the package since 2008 (see http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=2414 -- username ixs)
= Problem space = Keeping the package collection in general, and EPEL in particular, secure and up to date
= Solution Overview = For EL-5 it is urgent that the package be reassigned as no one else is currently co-maintaining.
For the other branches there are comaintainers but it would be a good idea to clarify who is the point of contact; orphaning the package would be a good idea.

I know ixs very well and I know he is very busy with his job, so +1 for taking over.

We agreed at todays (2010-07-06) meeting to try and contact ixs again for the next few days (since he was seen on irc recently) and get him to at least add comaintainers. If we get no answer then we will at least reassign this package.
I've added patch to [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=488364 bug 488364] if some provenpackager wants to fix this issue asap. I have all changes ready, only commit acl is missing which I've requested some time ago
If current maintainer is no longer interested in libsndfile I'm willing to become maintainer for this package. I already maintain it for rhel6
I chatted with ixs briefly today on IRC. He would like mhlavink (and others if they wish) to request acls on libsndfile and he will approve them later today.
I also suggested he try and post a list of packages where co-maintainers would be helpful while he is otherwise busy to the devel list looking for co-maintainers.

ixs has approved the acls for mhlavink and the fix is pushed.
