#3550 Change: switch_distribution_default_MariaDB_from_10.11_to_11.8
Closed: Accepted a month ago by sgallagh. Opened a month ago by alking.

MariaDB is packages now use the versioned package layout. Currently we have packages mariadb10.11 and mariadb11.8 which both provides their respective versioned named sub-packages (e.g. mariadb10.11-server or mariadb11.8-errmsg etc.) A "distribution default" version is the one, that also provides the unversioned names (e.g. mariadb-server or mariadb-errmsg etc.), making it easy for user to discover, install, and for other packages to depend on. Currently the "distribution default" version of MariaDB is 10.11. Let's switch to 11.8.

Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended.
The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed. See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the Discourse discussion linked above. Additional discussion may happen on the Fedora Devel mailing list.

I wish 1) people would use less weird wiki page URLs and 2) that the weirdness wouldn't get copied into ticket titles verbatim (including _s) ...

Yes, this could just be "mariadb-11.8"

+1 in any case
