Switch PackageKit to the new DNF5 backend built on
libdnf5
.
Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended. The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed. See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

+1, looking forward to using this direct support for
libdnf5
.
I wasn't aware that there's so much flux and uncertainty about the direction of development of GnomeSoftware, PackageKit, Dnf05Daemon, etc. But this change makes things significantly better, so it's definitely worth doing.
Does this mean that we can get rid of dnf4 code in Fedora 44?
We can't until EPEL 10 is EOL, but it won't be installed by default anymore.
(also as an FYI, it's not dnf05daemon, it's dnf5daemon, everyone please stop using the wrong name)
dnf05daemon
dnf5daemon
After a week: APPROVED (+8, 0, -0)
