#3442 [FastTrack] Change: GNU Toolchain Update
Closed: Accepted 7 months ago by zbyszek. Opened 7 months ago by amoloney.

Update the Fedora 43 GNU Toolchain to gcc 15.2, binutils 2.45, glibc
2.42 and gdb 17.1.

The set of core GNU Toolchain packages for Fedora 43 are as follows:

  • GNU C Compiler 15.2
** Associated runtimes for C++ (libstdc++), Go (gccgo), OpenMP (gomp),
Fortran (gfortran), D (phobos), Objective C/C++.
  • GNU Binary Utilities 2.45
  • GNU C Library 2.42
  • GNU Debugger 17.1 (immediately available in all Fedora releases)

The gcc 15.2 change will be tracked in this top-level GNU Toolchain
system-wide change request.

The binutils 2.45 change will be tracked in this top-level GNU
Toolchain system-wide change request.

The glibc 2.42 change will be tracked in this top-level GNU Toolchain
system-wide change request.

The gdb 17.1 update will be rolled out across all Fedora releases and
the move to newer versions will be handled in the same fashion. The
debugger is capable of debugging the binary artifacts produced by the
rest of the system toolchain.

Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended.
The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed. See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the Discourse discussion linked above. Additional discussion may happen on the Fedora Devel mailing list.

+1 Hopefully everything is ready for the mass rebuild next week.

I propose that we fast-track this ticket, given that it would otherwise only be approved by 7-day-timeout after Monday and the mass rebuild is scheduled to start on Wednesday (+1 to fast-track, FTR).

+1

I added the FastTrack annotations following the policy.

No, upgrading to gcc 15.2 does block the release.
Yes, upgrading to binutils 2.45 does block the release.

I think "not" was lost in here.

I don't know who you counted twice, but I only see 6 +1 votes so far.

Looks like Kevin submitted two +1s in separate comments, so that is probably what happened.

Sorry, must have mis +1'ed there. ;(

I can add my +1 and the count works properly :)
