We will stop building the Fedora Atomic Desktops for the PowerPC 64 LE architecture. According to the count me statistics, we don't have any Atomic Desktops users on PPC64LE.
Users of Atomic Desktops on PPC64LE will have to either switch back to a Fedora package mode installation or build their own images using Bootable Containers which are available for PPC64LE.
Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended. The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed. See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.
REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the Discourse discussion linked above. Additional discussion may happen on the Fedora Devel mailing list.
+1
I see there will be a related change to drop flatpak ppc64le builds too
In the near future (should be in 2025) there could be suitable hardware (https://openpowerfoundation.org/groups/powerpi/). Will eventually re-enable the builds in a few months be simpler than continue the builds?
If new hardware appears, I'd expect to see a new SIG effort and a new Change around it.
It should be reasonably easy to revert the changes and re-enable the builds if folks are interested in maintaining them again. What's costly is the maintenance over time when we have no users.
Thanks @sgallagh and @siosm.
This is a +1 for me
