Currently, Anaconda is still an X11 application, which we would like to fix and make Anaconda Wayland native application to allow us drop of the X11 dependencies from installation ISO images. However, this change is not just a simple switch and we need to do some adjustments during the path which will impact user experience.
Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended. The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed. See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.
REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the devel list thread linked above.
+1
I'm worried that the switch to GRD will cause a lot of breakage. But let's try this. If it turns out that the pain is too widespread, we can either re-add the support for VNC or delay the feature. The other parts of the proposal, i.e. switching to a D-Bus-based systemd-localed approach sounds like a good cleanup.
I think re-adding VNC support would be easier, since it's just wiring up the backend.
+1 I am not sure all the spins will be able to deal with the keyboard changes in time, but hopefully! :)
With votes tallying (+7, 0, 0), this is marked as APPROVED.
