#3032 Change: Anaconda WebUI for Fedora Workstation by default
Closed: Accepted 2 years ago by tstellar. Opened 2 years ago by amoloney.

The new PatternFly-based UI has been developed by the Anaconda team for some time now and we would like to make it available for users of Fedora to enhance and modernize installation experience. As the first step in this user adoption process, we are targeting Fedora Workstation only.

Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended.
The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed.
See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the devel list thread linked above.

+1 It's pretty short timeline, but we can revert if needed.

Contingency mechanism: Return back to the current GTK UI by changing packages to build the ISO.

This is very brief, but my understanding is that we can revert a few patches and return to status quo ante. I think the contingency mechanism is very important, because I wouldn't be surprised if users find various missing bits of functionality when the new installer gets wider exposure. Depending on what is discovered, we need to be ready to revert this for F39.

With the above caveat, +1.

Hi, it's even simpler. The change is to add or remove one package anaconda-webui from the ISO.

+1

I wish the anaconda team good luck and I hope that downstream requirements do not end up requiring both the text mode and graphical frontends to come back. History tells us otherwise. :)

There were only two +1 votes in the first week, so following the voting rules, the voting is extended until the end of the second week, i.e. 3 more days.

Hello, could we please move this forward, so we know if the change is or isn't accepted.

Is there a deadline for this decision?

This should have been accepted a few days ago as far as I can tell.

I see four +1 votes after 14 days, so this is APPROVED (+4, 0, -0)

It would be very useful to have a tracker bug for this; I have been playing with it today and have filed two bugs I'd like to mark as blocking the tracker, but it doesn't exist.

Please create a tracker bug.

Thanks @aday for the screenshots. Just a bit of explanation because Anaconda is missing in the screenshots.

Anaconda will not ask for already configured values from the Gnome Initial Setup. So Anaconda will mainly do a partitioning solution and reading values from the system.

It sounds like the team now wants to target this for F42, not F41; @jkonecny can you confirm? Should we push this Change to F42?

Hi, yes. I have on my TODO to make this official announcement but I wasn't able to get to that yet.

In short, we have a lot on our plate and current solution was already once rejected. So, instead of going with the same again we decided to postpone our change to F42 and focus on other work in F41 (change for that will come soon).

@amoloney can you push this change to f42, then? Thanks!
