A major upgrade of Microdnf is the first step in the evolution of package management in Fedora. The new microdnf has ambitions to provide all major features of DNF without losing its minimal footprint.
+1
I was away for a few days and I'm only catching up with various threads now. I sent some questions about the proposal and microdnf more widely to the devel thread. It would be good to have some clarity on the transition path. But it doesn't really matter for this proposal: it is just about introducing a new version in parallel to the existing dnf4 stuff, so it's easy to say "yes, please".
I'm in the same boat. I'm worried about the eventual transition to this stack, especially because it's not a drop in replacement. But that's not relevant to this proposal.
I still would like to provide additional information to the proposal related to upgrade path, compatibility, future of old Microdnf and compatibility.
Anyway I would like to know your opinion whether you see any benefit to keep the old Microdnf package in distribution in Fedora 38?
