#2717 Blender 3.0.0 on Fedora 35
Closed: Rejected 2 years ago by zbyszek. Opened 2 years ago by luya.

Hello team,
Blender release version 3.0.0 which required updates for some depending packages. As a result, side-tag were used to avoid making major changes on Fedora 35 for production use.

Currently, USD support on Blender is disabled due to upstream changes where patches were already submitted. Those changes will only apply for Rawhide.

With your approval, I would like to push Blender 3.0.0 to stable release of Fedora 35 repository as the benefit will be to keep up to date with upstream.

I have to say that I agree with @music 's comment here:
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2021-cbd7b11d7d#comment-2309502

This looks like a quite disruptive update, introduces several API / ABI breaks in libraries and introduces big changes in blender itself.

If it's really necessary to update blender to version 3.0.0 in Fedora 35 (I doubt it), then somebody should at least double-check whether the necessary rebuilds for the API / ABI changes in library dependencies were handled correctly.

However, it looks like you already pushed this update to stable yesterday without waiting for an answer here? ...

blender-3.0.0-2.fc35 is stable in Fedora 35. I don't think we should try to undo this, unless users raise a ruckus. I'll add it to the meeting agenda for today.

This was discussed during today's meeting:
we're in general agreement that this update should not have been pushed, especially after opening the ticket here, and after music's comment in bodhi.
Action: nirik to write a mail to the maintainer.
